Impressions: Nuit Blanche
artist installation with A. Ng, A. Song, A. Chen, A. Vilcu, T. Mahon
Impressions was an installation designed and built for the Nuit Blanche city-wide installation exhibition in the fall of 2014. This project was exhibited at the Wychwood Farm barns in the city center.
A self-supporting wall houses a grid of cardboard tubes that react to the push and pull of users. At human height, bodies can leave an impression in life-size. What begins as a monolithic wall of tubes, by the end of the night is a wall impressioned with the memory of Toronto and its people, housing all the interactions of the night.
Using Grasshopper (a plugin for Rhino NURBS modeling), the undulating pattern of the furniture piece is generated to simulate the real-life interactive experience, and written to mimic real life movements.
