Tisser son Quartier (Weave Your Neighbourhood)
2017 freelance commission with Atelier PocWoc
Tisser son Quartier is an installation that emphasizes the individual and community efforts in promoting the recycling of materials. The design won an annual competition for Montreal’s Articule Gallery’s alleyway festival. The theme that particular year focused on fabric re-use and recycling which we interpreted as a community effort activity. Tisser son Quartier calls for the participation of the public and promotes recycling through the re-use of donated fabrics. The curtain wall of fabric strips served as a gateway and signal to the alleyway festival and became a temporary and ephemeral canvas for the event. Follies (sculptures) realized their finalized form using the donated fabric from the curtain wall. These sculptures were then displayed in various public institutions in Montreal’s Plateau neighbourhood.
